2021 Kangarilla Road Black St Peter’s Zinfandel

Tasting Notes
Refined yet opulent aromatics exude from the glass.   Hints of dark chocolate liqueur cherries, mixed spice, dark raisins all wrapped in fragrant sweet tea.  Touches of mezcal and bay leaf appear and  there is a brief moment starring unmistakable Manuka honey. On the palate there is a blend of fruit and oak tannins carrying toasted dark spices, dark chocolate vibes wrapping dark plums, dates and prunes in savoury elegance.

Vineyard Notes
Sourced from our Estate vineyard in the heart of McLaren Flat. It is located in the northern part of the foothills and ripens later than many of the other sub-regions resulting in an abundance of soft-velvety tannins.

Production Notes
Fermented in traditional oak vats, the wine will soak on grape skins to help build structure and mid-palate. After ferment, the wine was stored in one-year old French oak hogshead barrels for 18 months.

Winemaker Notes
Black St. Peters is a curious name thought to be given to Zinfandel during the mid-1800s where it was sold out of a nursery on Long Island.

Food Pairing Notes
A wine to enjoy with game such as venison loin with Chinese five spice or dry roasted duck.
